Google Home, unveiled on Tuesday, provides immediate access to Google Assistant whenever and wherever you need it. Whether you’re in the kitchen asking for a recipe, in the living room querying the latest sports scores, or preparing for work and seeking current traffic conditions, Google Home has you covered.
With the simple command of “OK Google”, you can ask Google Home to perform any tasks that Google Search can handle. Google Home can answer questions, convert currency, check the weather, read the daily news, and more — all in real time.
Linking Google Home with your personal Google account unlocks even more functionalities. For example, with the command “OK Google, tell me about my day”, Google Home will access your calendar and read off your schedule.
The device itself is designed to blend seamlessly into any home environment, featuring a clean and minimal design. No buttons, no LED lights, just a capacitive touch surface on top and the speaker grill on the bottom. Since every home has its unique interior design, Google Home can be customized to match its surroundings.
A Virtual Assistant with Personality
While this may sound like a purely functional experience, Google Home is more than just business. Similar to Siri, Cortana, and Alexa, Google Assistant is designed with a personality and a female persona.
You can have conversations and joke around with Google Assistant, which will respond in its own unique way. An example of Google Assistant’s personality can be seen in the company’s Google Allo messaging app.
Pricing and Availability
Google Home will be available for purchase in November, with preorders already underway. It will retail for $129 and can be bought from major retailers such as Best Buy, Target, and Walmart.
