Google My Business Now Lets Listings Specify Their Service Areas

Google My Business now allows listings to specify their geographic service areas.

Previously, service-area businesses couldn’t control what their Google My Business listings displayed in terms of areas served. The service area was automatically set as a distance around the business’s Physical location, which was not ideal for businesses serving outlying areas.

Now, Google My Business has separate fields for editing physical addresses and service areas. Businesses that don’t serve customers at their physical location can leave the address field blank and only enter their service area. Those that serve customers both at their location and within a separate service area can fill out both fields.

The option to set a service area as a distance around a business has been removed. Service-area businesses that previously entered a distance can keep that setting, but they won’t be able to edit it. To make changes, they will need to specify their service area by region, city, or ZIP code.

### Adding or Editing a Service Area

Businesses can add or edit a service area by following these steps:

1. Sign in to Google My Business.
2. From the menu, click Info.
3. In the service area section, click Edit.
4. Enter the service area information, which can be based on region, city, or ZIP code.
5. Click Apply.
