A forthcoming update to Google Maps will enhance the app’s ability to provide more personalized recommendations for activities and attractions, thanks to advancements in machine learning technology.
Here is an overview of the new features announced today:
- Redesigned ‘Explore’ Tab: This feature offers recommendations for top trending activities focused around the area you’re currently viewing in Maps.
- Match Scores: Food and drink venues will display a “match” score indicating how likely you are to enjoy them. This score is calculated using machine learning, taking into account information about the business, your preferences, places you’ve visited, and your previous ratings.
- Group Planning: You can add places to shareable lists, which friends and family can also contribute to and vote on. This aims to simplify decision-making for group outings.
- “For You” Tab: A new tab that highlights places you might want to explore in areas you visit frequently.
These features will begin rolling out globally on Android and iOS within the next few months.
