Google has introduced a subtle change to its search results on both mobile and desktop platforms.
When PowerPoint presentations (PPTs) and PDFs are uploaded to a website, the raw files can now be indexed in search results.
Now, when search results include PDFs or PPTs, they will be marked with new labels, as shown below.
These new labels for PDFs and PPTs are clean and easy to identify when skimming through search results.
Moreover, the new labels are more consistent with the overall look and feel of Google’s search results, closely resembling the AdWords “Ad” label but in grey instead of green.
It’s important to note that these labels only appear when the search results link directly to a PDF or PPT file. They do not appear if these files are embedded within actual web pages.
While this is primarily an aesthetic change, it has the potential to increase click-through rates for those specifically searching for PDFs and/or PPTs.
