What Does a Zebra Sound Like? Ask Google

Google has quietly introduced a new feature in its search engine that plays various animal noises when the phrase "animal noises" is searched. Users will see a carousel of animals, each with a corresponding noise that can be heard when clicked or tapped.

Additionally, if you search for "what sound does an elephant make?", a similar carousel will appear, prominently featuring the queried animal.

This feature has been available for the past couple of weeks. Mashable was the first to notice it in North America, while Google’s Austria Google+ page initially broke the news in March. A total of 19 animal calls have been added, including:

  • Monkey
  • Cat
  • Cow
  • Duck
  • Elephant
  • Horse
  • Lion
  • Moose
  • Owl
  • Pig
  • Raccoons
  • Rooster
  • Sheep
  • Tiger
  • Turkey
  • Turtle
  • Bowhead
  • Humpback whale
  • Wolf
  • Zebra

This tool may be useful for educating children or as a general reference if more animal noises are added in the future.

It is currently unknown whether Google plans to expand this feature, but it appears to be available worldwide on desktop, iOS, and Android.
