We Won’t Tell You When the Mobile-First Index Has Fully Rolled Out

Google’s Gary Illyes mentioned at SMX East that the company will not disclose when the mobile-first index has completely rolled out.

In fact, it may never be entirely rolled out, as Illyes noted there will always be some anomalies.

This information comes from attendees of SMX East who shared highlights from the conference on social media.

Google first announced plans for a mobile-first search index last year.

Since then, SEOs and site owners have been eagerly awaiting official details on when this significant update would take effect.

It was previously reported that the mobile-first index had begun rolling out to a select number of sites that are prepared for it.

Regarding when the mobile-first index will be in place for all sites, excluding the outliers, it seems we will never know.

For reference, representatives from Google previously stated that the company aimed to implement the mobile-first switch in early 2018.

Perhaps that is when the mobile-first index will be in place for most sites, but again, there is no certainty.
