Google’s homepage on mobile devices has undergone a major redesign, offering more than just a search bar now.
The mobile version of Google.com has been revamped significantly for the first time in years, making it closely resemble the Google Search app.
Google Discover, previously known as Google Feed, is now situated directly below the search bar.
This section displays content customized to fit a user’s individual interests.
Recommendations are based on data from a user’s Google account, including web activity, device information, location history, and settings.
Here’s an example of its appearance. Keep in mind that the content shown here is tailored to my interests as the logged-in user, so what others see will differ.
Google Discover in mobile browsers offers a few unique features that stand out from the mobile app.
The most notable feature is the topic header that appears above stories, allowing users to tap on it for more content on that specific topic.
Users also have the option to ‘follow’ topics of interest to them.
Another unique feature is a button located at the bottom-right corner of each story, enabling users to specify whether they want to see more or less of that type of story.
Google announced last month that these changes were incoming, although they seem to be available only in the US at the moment.
A broader rollout might happen soon, but Google hasn’t shared any specifics about the timing and locations for this update.
For those who prefer the old homepage layout, Google Discover can be turned off by following these steps:
1. Visit Google.com on a mobile browser.
2. Tap the three-line menu icon.
3. Select “Settings.”
4. Select “Discover.”
5. Choose “Don’t show on homepage.”
