As the one-year anniversary of Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMPs) arrived this past Friday, a report by Adobe Analytics indicated that AMPs accounted for 7% of traffic to top US publishers. This data is accurate as of December 2016.
The report also revealed that between April 2016 and December 2016, the number of AMPs on the web grew by 405%. This rise could explain the reported 896% increase in traffic to AMPs in November 2016.
Adobe’s findings are based on an analysis of over 1.7 trillion visits to over 16,000 mobile web pages from January 2014 to January 2017. The specific data on AMPs is based on traffic to top US publishers between April 2016 and December 2016.
Though AMP technology first became available in February 2016, it wasn’t until September 2016 that they began appearing in organic search results. This is another factor to consider with respect to the spike in organic traffic to AMPs at the end of last year.
Most recently, Google’s iOS app began returning AMPs in its search results, suggesting we could see another spike the next time data like this is revealed.
