Google’s John Mueller recently mentioned that the robots.txt testing tool will eventually be transitioned to the updated version of Search Console.
This information was shared during a Google Webmaster Central hangout on February 5.
A site owner asked about the availability of the robots.txt testing tool in the new Google Search Console.
Mueller did not provide a specific timeline for this transition but implied that since there have been no announcements about discontinuing the feature, it will likely be moved to the new platform eventually.
You can listen to the full question and response starting at the 35-minute mark.
“We haven’t announced that yet, but we’re trying to be proactive in transitioning features to give users a chance to adapt… As soon as we have more details on the transition, we’ll inform you. I believe this is a useful tool worth keeping. So, since we haven’t announced its removal, I suspect it will just be integrated into the new Search Console over time.”
New Search Console is not replacing the old Search Console
In related news, Mueller recently clarified that there are no plans to completely replace the old Search Console.
There was some confusion following an announcement about the removal of several features from the old Search Console.
Some people thought Google was planning to shut down the old version of Search Console, but Mueller confirmed that’s not true.
Further, many of the features being removed will have similar replacements in the new Search Console.
