Google Maps is set to introduce an update aimed at enhancing location discovery in two distinct ways.
One of the most noticeable changes will be the introduction of color-coded points of interest. Different categories of locations will now feature their own unique color schemes, and new icons will be introduced to improve the identification of the type of location.
Places such as cafes, churches, museums, and hospitals will each have their own distinct color and icon.
Here are the categories of locations along with their corresponding color schemes:
Additionally, Google Maps will implement a feature to help users discover locations based on their mode of transportation.
If you’re driving, Google Maps will highlight relevant points of interest such as gas stations. For those traveling by public transit, locations like train stations and bus stops will be prominently displayed.
Despite these new features, the explore option will remain available, showing all points of interest within the area being viewed.
Google has announced that these changes will be rolled out over the next few weeks across all products that utilize Google Maps — including Assistant, Search, Earth, and Android Auto.
