Google has introduced a new feature to local search knowledge panels that assigns ratings to hotels based on their location.
Hotels receive a rating from 1 to 5, with 1 indicating a terrible location and 5 indicating an excellent one.
The overall score is an average of three individual ratings, each scored on a 5-point scale:
– Proximity to attractions
– Accessibility to transit
– Airport access
Each rating is derived from data provided by Google Maps.
An example from the knowledge panel for the Delta hotel in downtown Toronto illustrates this feature.
To view this tab within the knowledge panel, you need to perform a general search like “Toronto hotels” and select a hotel from the local pack.
Currently, it’s not possible to view a hotel’s location score when searching by its name. This might change in the future, but that’s the current state.
Most of the knowledge panels reviewed showed ratings in the 3-point range, with the highest scores being in the low 4’s.
Thus, finding a hotel with a perfect 5-point score for location might be challenging.
This feature appears to be available to all users but only on mobile devices.
