Google is currently testing a revamped design for its image search results pages. This new design incorporates the rounded corners seen in Google’s recent regular search results update.
The presentation of images has been redesigned as well, featuring an in-line photo viewer that opens on the left-hand side of the search results page.
A user on Twitter noted the drastic change, mistaking it initially as an error due to its significant difference from the previous layout.
The revamped photo viewer maintains its position on the side, allowing users to scroll through search results while keeping the selected image visible. With a white background, the new viewer integrates more seamlessly with the page compared to the previous model, which had a stark black background.
Colorful image search suggestions are now plain white, presented in bubble-shaped buttons to complement the rounded aesthetic, eliminating sharp edges.
Overall, the redesigned image search does not alter the user experience significantly in terms of functionality; the changes appear to be cosmetic, aiming to align the image search with the design of regular search results. As the new design is still in testing, most users are expected to continue seeing the old image search layout for now.
