This week, the Google Chrome browser for iOS received an update that introduces support for Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP). This update will enable pages built with AMP technology to load instantly when accessed from Google’s search results.
Websites that have integrated AMP technology will have their articles marked with a lightning bolt icon and the initials “AMP”.
Google’s update states:
“Look out for a lightning bolt and ‘AMP’ next to articles in the ‘Top Stories’ section of your search results and enjoy blazing fast web page loading.”
This support for AMP pages was the sole feature in the latest version of Chrome for iOS, making it a small yet important update.
October marks a year since Google first announced Accelerated Mobile Pages. Since then, AMP has gradually been rolling out to Google’s apps. The Google Search app for iOS added AMP support this past May. Now, iOS users who prefer Chrome over Safari can experience faster searching.
Additionally, it’s worth noting an update to the Google Search app for iOS this week, which includes enhanced voice search and other useful features.
