With Siri being thoroughly integrated into the latest Apple TV units, it was only a matter of time before Google Assistant made its way to Android TV. Consumers can expect to see this development in the coming months, as Google announced that Assistant will be available on supported TVs and set-top boxes in an upcoming update.
With Google Assistant on Android TV, you’ll be able to do anything from requesting content to inquiring about your morning commute.
Google Assistant will debut on the NVIDIA SHIELD and can be activated with the simple command “OK Google.” Within the next several months, it will also be available on the following devices:
– AirTV Player
– All Android TVs in the USA running Android 6.0 or higher, including:
– Sharp Aquos
– Sony Bravia
– Xiaomi Mi Box
– and more
Google has additional plans for Assistant this year, indicating that it will also be integrated into smartwatches running Android Wear 2.0, Android-powered in-car infotainment systems, and other types of devices through the Embedded Google Assistant SDK.
More details about Google Assistant’s integration with other platforms will be unveiled during this weekend’s CES in Las Vegas.
