Google has enhanced its image recognition capabilities with new updates to Google Assistant and Google Photos.
Google Lens, integrated into Assistant and Photos, can now identify specific breeds of dogs or cats. Simply capture an image of a cat or dog using Lens or have Lens analyze an existing photo on your device.
Lens will evaluate the image and, if it finds a match, retrieve a brief description of the breed from Google Search. You can see how it works in the GIF below:
If Google Lens cannot determine the exact breed, it will present a carousel of possible breed suggestions.
Previously, Google Lens could identify the presence of a dog or cat in a photo but was unable to specify the breed.
This update is being gradually rolled out, with some users having access while others are still waiting.
