Google AdMob Updates Privacy Terms in Response to New U.S. State Laws

Google is updating its existing Data Processing and Controller-Controller Data Protection Terms to align with new privacy laws in Iowa, Delaware, New Jersey, Nebraska, and New Hampshire, which will take effect in January 2025.

AdMob users who have already accepted Google’s online data protection terms do not need to take any action.

Additionally, starting November 15, publishers using Restricted Data Processing (RDP) may notice increased traffic under this mode as it will now apply to these states.

Why this matters: The new privacy laws in Iowa, Delaware, New Jersey, Nebraska, and New Hampshire will influence how user data is managed on Google AdMob. This could potentially lead to an increase in traffic under Restricted Data Processing (RDP) from January 2025.

This change could impact ad targeting and performance, making it crucial for advertisers to understand these developments and adjust their strategies to ensure compliance while maintaining the effectiveness of their campaigns.

What’s next: Publishers should review relevant resources to manage privacy settings and prepare for any potential traffic changes related to the new laws.
