Foursquare Unveils New Look, Logo, and Personalized Local Search Feature
Foursquare has introduced a revamped design, a fresh logo, and an exciting new feature that will become a core aspect of their business: personalized local search.
According to Foursquare, current local search methods fail to understand individual users, resulting in similar search results for everyone in a given area.
Foursquare raises the question: “Why should two very different people get the same recommendations when they visit Paris? Or the same list of places when they’re looking for a bar?”
In a few weeks, this is set to change. The new Foursquare version will focus heavily on personal preferences. Users can share their likes, and Foursquare will recommend local establishments that suit their tastes.
Out With The Old, In With The New
Current Foursquare users will need to download Swarm to continue checking in. Starting July 24, all check-ins previously made on Foursquare will be transitioned to Swarm. Friends, photos, and check-in history will all transfer seamlessly.
If you use both Swarm and Foursquare, the two apps will work together without issues.
The Foursquare logo is also getting a makeover, moving from the check-in checkmark to a design symbolizing the new Foursquare.
“We designed it to be a mix of map pin and superhero emblem. We’ve always thought of Foursquare as giving you superpowers to explore your city, and our new logo reflects that vision. It’s coming soon to a homescreen near you.”
Personalized Local Search
With the new Foursquare app, no two users will experience the same interface. The app will be entirely customized based on individual tastes after understanding user preferences.
By adding interests, following experts, or simply exploring for a few days, the app begins to learn the types of places you enjoy. Your previous check-in history will also help tailor recommendations when the new app launches.
“This is the beginning of the ‘personalized local search’ future we’ve been talking about since we started,” Foursquare explains, noting that this feat is achievable thanks to its 50 million members.
The new Foursquare is slated to arrive very soon.
