Featured Snippets for Multi-Intent Queries

Google is enhancing search results with a new kind of featured snippet designed for queries with multiple possible interpretations.

These multifaceted featured snippets might appear for inquiries such as “ears popping on a plane,” where the search could be focused on either causes or remedies.

“Sometimes the words used to ask a question are broad and could be understood in various ways. With multifaceted featured snippets, we’re able to better comprehend your query and recognize when it may have multiple interpretations.”

An example of multifaceted featured snippets is shown below for the ambiguous query “garden needs full sun?,” which might be seeking one of two different answers.

Google will initially introduce multifaceted featured snippets for “multi-intent” queries, where the intent behind the query could be perceived differently.

In the future, Google plans to expand these snippets to include a wider range of query types. For instance, a question like “is my house worth fixing?” comprises several different components that could be equally significant.
