Google is set to introduce an updated appearance for search results, which will feature favicons in the search engine results pages (SERPs).
The name of the website and its favicon will be prominently displayed at the top of the results card, as depicted in the accompanying image.
“With this new design, a website’s branding can be front and center, helping you better understand where the information is coming from and what pages have what you’re looking for,” according to a statement.
Google indicates that this redesign will benefit users by enabling them to more easily browse the results page and choose the source from which they want information.
This update will also impact how advertisements are presented. A black ‘Ad’ label will replace the green label and be positioned at the top of the card, alongside a URL.
The ad text will now start below the ‘Ad’ label, simplifying the differentiation between ads and organic search results.
Moreover, Google mentions that this new design has been created with future considerations in mind:
“As we continue to make new content formats and useful actions available—from buying movie tickets to playing podcasts—this new design allows us to add more action buttons and helpful previews to search results cards, all while giving you a better sense of the web page’s content with clear attribution back to the source.”
The updated search results appearance is initially launching on mobile and will be rolled out in the coming days.
