Google is set to introduce a new feature allowing companies to emphasize remote job postings in search results, enhancing the ease of finding work-from-home opportunities. This development is being communicated directly to site owners through Google Search Console.
Businesses will need to use structured data to mark their remote job postings so they can be correctly labeled in search results. To classify a job posting as remote, Google requires the following conditions:
– The position must be fully remote with the jobLocationType field set to ‘TELECOMMUTE.’
– Jobs offering partial remote work or negotiable arrangements do not qualify as fully remote.
When using structured data to mark a remote job posting, consider these recommendations:
– Specify at least one country where applicants are eligible to work using applicantLocationRequirements.
– Additional criteria for applicant location eligibility, such as specific states, can also be included.
– If applicantLocationRequirements are not specified, Google will assume the job is available to everyone in the country corresponding to the jobLocation value.
Though the labeling of remote job postings in Google search has not been officially launched, the company indicates it will be available “soon.” Another announcement is expected once the feature is live, and this early notification gives businesses time to prepare.
