Google has started providing direct answers for certain queries instead of displaying full search results. These changes are noticeable for queries related to the time in different cities, math calculations, and unit conversions.
For instance, a search for “time in India” will show a direct answer. Similarly, searching for a mathematical calculation will also provide a direct answer without additional search results. The same applies to unit conversions, such as temperature conversion examples.
Upon testing various queries, it’s evident that Google only omits full search results under specific conditions. If a query has multiple interpretations, a complete set of search results will be provided. For example, searching for “5×5” not only displays a calculation box but also results for a weightlifting program. Likewise, searching for “time in London” yields results for both the current time and the Times of London publication.
For unit conversions, specificity is key. A search for “1L to oz” returns a blank set of search results, while “liters to ounces” gives a full page. Interestingly, this change does not apply to currency conversions, which is beneficial for currency conversion websites.
Additionally, Google seems to hide full search results only on mobile devices using the Chrome browser. Other browsers, like Safari, continue to display complete sets of search results for these queries.
It appears that Google is aiming to expedite the search process for mobile users seeking specific answers, but this might impact clicks to other publishers’ sites.
