Google to Introduce New Referrer URL for Google Images

Google announced plans to introduce a new referrer URL specific to Google Images in the coming months. This update aims to help site owners gain better insights into the traffic driven by Google Images.

The new referrer URL for Google Images will be included in the HTTP header, indicating the last page a user visited before clicking through to the destination webpage. This change will be implemented automatically, so site owners do not need to take any action.

Google Analytics will automatically capture the new referrer URL and link the traffic to Google Images. There will be no changes in data recording within Search Console.

Google advises software developers, especially those creating tools to analyze website traffic, to prepare for this change by adapting their systems to ingest the new referrer URL.

The new referrer URL will match the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) of the URL used for Google Images searches. Generally, users worldwide access Google Images from a central URL.
