Google Rich Results Testing Tool Expands Support to Events, Movies, and TV Shows

Google’s rich results testing tool has expanded its capabilities to test structured data markup for events, movies, and TV shows.

This update was identified by search marketer Aaron Bradley, who conducted tests to confirm the tool’s ability to validate “TV and Movie” and “Event” structured data markup.

With these additions, the tool now supports the following rich result types:

– Job posting
– Recipe
– Course
– TV and Movie
– Event

Rich results in Google Search offer more engaging search outcomes than standard blue text links, incorporating elements like carousels, images, or other non-textual UI components.

For instance, searching for something like “jazz concerts this weekend” would display a list of related events near your current location, enhanced by structured data.

Google retrieves rich results, as exemplified above, by reading the structured data markup found on event pages. Therefore, if you are hosting an event, using this markup is necessary for your event to be featured in Google’s rich results.

Google’s rich results testing tool aids site owners in ensuring their structured data is correctly implemented. While it does not yet support all types of rich results markup, more types are regularly being added. Using the tool is the best way to confirm if Google can interpret your markup.
