According to reports, Google is planning to redesign its home page to align more with its mobile app experience.
Google’s iconic home page, traditionally featuring just a logo and a search bar, is set to be updated to resemble the home page on its iOS and Android applications.
Upon opening the mobile app, users are met with a search bar followed immediately by a personalized feed of recent news stories.
Google recently enhanced its home page with improved machine learning, making the feed more proficient in predicting what users might be interested in reading.
Additionally, users now have the ability to manually follow topics of interest, which will be incorporated into the home page feed.
If Google extends this experience to desktop, it will represent the most significant change to its home page since its inception in 1996.
Integrating a personalized feed on the home page will almost certainly require users to be logged in. When not logged in, it is likely that users will see a generic selection of trending news stories.
Will we look back in 10 years and say, “Remember when Google’s home page was just a logo and a search bar?”
Time will tell. Any new developments on this story will be shared as they arise.
