Google is responding to the increased demand for news by adding over 200 more stories to the home screen of its News & Weather app. These additional stories are featured in a browsable stream called ‘More Headlines.’
Previously, the app displayed only the top three stories from various sections on its home screen, often leaving users to scroll to the bottom seeking more content. Now, users have an expanded selection to explore.
"Get a deeper view into the latest from Business, Tech, Entertainment, Sports, and various other sections, ranked and classified for easy reading. The More Headlines section loads stories on demand as you keep scrolling, quenching your thirst for news."
In addition to the increased number of stories, Google is also integrating AMP articles into the News & Weather app.
Each story will continue to appear in card format, which can be expanded to display articles that are ‘Highly Cited’, from a ‘Local Source’, or verified via ‘Fact Check’.
Google emphasizes that the ranking of articles within the app is purely algorithmic.
‘More Headlines’ will be available to both iOS and Android users.
