A new feature has been noticed in Google Maps that seems to highlight ongoing public events.
A Reddit user shared a screenshot captured over the weekend, showing this new feature.
Other Reddit users commented that they couldn’t replicate the feature, while some mentioned they’ve been seeing it for years. The number of upvotes on the post indicates that it’s new to most people.
Personally, I can’t recall seeing anything exactly like this. Google Maps does plot routes for certain known events like the Tour de France, Boston Marathon, and Pride parades, but that’s different from marking locations of currently ongoing events.
Google Maps will also highlight locations of events added to your calendar, but again, that’s not the same as what is shown in the screenshot.
