Google Maps is enhancing accessibility with an update designed to assist users in finding the most wheelchair-friendly routes.
When searching for directions in transit navigation mode, users will now have the option to filter results to show only wheelchair accessible routes.
To access wheelchair accessible routes in Google Maps, follow these steps:
- Search for a destination
- Select “Directions”
- Tap the public transportation icon
- Select “Options”
- Select “Wheelchair accessible” at the bottom of the page

With this feature enabled, Google Maps will show only routes that take mobility needs into account. The rollout has begun in New York, Tokyo, Mexico City, Boston, and Sydney.
Google plans to introduce wheelchair accessible routes in more cities over the coming months.
