A report published by Reuters indicates that 75% of Internet use in 2017 will come from mobile devices. This marks a slight increase from mobile web usage in the current year, as per data from media buying agency Zenith.
Looking further ahead to 2018, Zenith forecasts that 60% of all advertising dollars on the web will be generated from mobile ads. By then, mobile ad expenditure is anticipated to reach $134 billion, surpassing spending on any other form of advertising.
“As more ad dollars shift to the digital realm from television, brands are rushing to major platforms where they can market to viewers… This trend is driving a shift in ad dollars to mobile and stimulating deals in the media, entertainment, and communications sectors.”
Addressing the rise of mobile web usage, Google recently released a study showing that nearly 50% of people search exclusively on smartphones.
According to Google’s study, an increasing number of individuals are using only smartphones to access the internet, with mobile device users spending significantly more time online than those using desktop computers.
We are indeed living in a mobile-first world, and one of the clearest indications of this is Google’s investment in an enhanced, mobile-only set of search results, which will be launched over the next few months.
